NATOs Supreme Allied Commander in Europe General John Craddock and delegation was visiting Afghanistan province of Ghowr on October 30. The delegation also includes Permanent Ambassador of Lithuania to NATO Linas Linkevicius, Senior Civilian Representative of NATO in Afghanistan Ambassador Daan Everts, Elder of NATO Military Committee Brigadier General Edvardas Mazeikis, and other high-ranking officers and guests.

Soldiers of Portugal take over Baltic Air-policing mission

Change of military units on NATO Air-policing mission ceremony will be held in Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base in Siauliai on October 31. Romanian soldiers currently guarding Baltic airspace will hand over the mission to the Portuguese Air Force soldiers.

NATO Military Budget Committee visit Lithuania

NATO Military Budget Committee is visiting Lithuania from October 25 to 26. Members of the Committee are continuing their tour from Latvia and Estonia.
On October 25 guests visited Aviation Base of Lithuanian Air Force and met with commander of the Aviation Base Lt. Col. Audronis Navickas and commander of the Romanian Unit on the Air policing mission Lt. Col. Laurenţiu Chiriţa.

Six military medics will go to Afghanistan

Six military medics who will serve in composition of the sixth rotation of the Lithuanian-led Ghowr Reconstruction Team will be deployed to Afghanistan in the beginning of November. Period of service of military medics in Afghanistan was cut by half. From the PRT-6 mission rotational cycle of military medics was shortened to three months in order to facilitate formation of medical PRT contingent.

National Defence Minister took part in informal NATO Defence Ministers consultations in the Netherlands

On October 24-25 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas took part in the informal NATO Defence Ministers meeting in Noordwijk (the Netherlands).
The ministers discussed NATO operations extensively. Lithuania supported the position of the need for better coordination of efforts in Afghanistan. Conclusions were drawn that solely military efforts will bring luck neither in Afghanistan, nor in other operations. The ministers also agreed on the need of informing international community on NATOs efforts to defend common values in Afghanistan.

On October 24-25 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and his delegation will take part in the informal NATO Defence Ministers meeting in Noordwijk (the Netherlands). The meeting will address current issues of the Alliance, participation in international operations, future of NATO Response Force. Session of NATO and Russian Council, as part of Noordwijk meeting, will focus on prospects of cooperation and opinion sharing on important points of security policy.

Lithuanian soldiers in Ghowr help children prepare for winter

Project financed by ELSIS Enterprise, currently responsible for extension of the PRT camp, included heat isolation installation into the building of childrens home, repairing broken window-frames, glassing in, and heat isolation coating. Roof of the house will also probably be equipped with heat isolation material. It is the first time regional project of Lithuanian soldiers is financed by a Lithuanian enterprise.
