On January 31 crew of Air Force helicopter Mi-8 assisted environmental protection specialists to evaluate a 200-metre width and 5,5-kilometer length spot of oil that poured into the Baltic Sea next to Butinge terminal from a ship registered in Cayman Islands.

Naval Forces divers roam under-ice streams of the North Atlantic

From February 1 to 18 eight deminer divers of the Lithuanian Naval Forces Underwater Actions Team led by Capt. Lt. Romanas Polovcevas will take part in “EODEX” exercise held in North Norway. The event will be the most extensive underwater extreme conditions exercise in North Atlantic region this year.

PRT military medics help do surgery for a seriously ill Afghan kid

Military medics of PRT-6 assisted in a difficult surgery made for a ten-year old Afghan boy. The kid feels well after the operation.
PRT medics noticed a 10-year old child in severe condition during the routine consultations at Chaghcharan hospital. After an examination anaesthesiologist Col. Marijus Salkevicius and Ukrainian surgeon Lt. Col. Evgenii Gerasymenko suspected a far-gone peritonitis. Condition of the young patient was bad. Head Doctor of Chaghcharan hospital surgeon Jakubi turned to PRT-6 for help in performing a difficult surgery that was necessary.

Codes of Vilnius and Lithuania in the logo of NATO meeting

Many codes important to Lithuania are incorporated into the logo of the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting that will take place in February. The sign contains motifs of Gediminas Castle and tricolour nation symbols, its graphical representation and combination of colours hints at Lithuanian cultural traditions - ancient weaving patterns - as well as symbolises the idea of dialog and interaction. Logotype consists of 26 elements meaning 26 NATO members.

Master Sergeant Romas Ramanauskas, representative of the Great Duchess Birute Motorised Infantry Battalion held meetings with students of Alytus schools on January 23 and told them about the mission of Lithuania in Ghowr Province of Afghanistan. Master Sgt. R. Ramanauskas was among the first soldiers sent to Afghanistan in 2005.
