Minister J.Olekas visited soldiers from Marijampole and Alytus serving in Kosovo

On Feb 26-27 delegation led by the National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas visited Lithuanian soldiers serving in KFOR in Kosovo. KFOR-17 Platoon deployed to Kosovo on October 2007 was formed on the basis of National Defence Volunteer Force Dainava District 1st Territorial Unit. Members of the unit mainly live in Alytus and Marijampole districts. The platoon of 30 members (two of them women) is led by 1st Lt. Aurelijus Selimavicius.

MoND Undersecretary Artur Ploksto take part in annual European Defence Agency conference in Brussels

On February 26-27 National Defence Ministry Undersecretary Artur Ploksto will take part in the European Defence Agency (EDA) conference held in Brussels on annual basis. The conference is organised by EDA in February each year. This year the main attention will be focused on the issues, challenges and opportunities for the logistic supply of the EU led crises management operations.

New Commander of Danish Division Gen. Maj. Niels H. Bundsgaard visit Iron Wolf Brigade

Gen. Maj. Niels H. Bundsgaard, Commander of the Danish Division, visited Lithuania on February 21. Commander assigned to the post in the beginning of this year met with the Lithuanian Land Force Commander Brig. Gen. Vytautas Jonas Zukas, and visited Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Headquarters and Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion while his stay in Vilnius.

National Defence Minister visit Lithuanian Forces in Kosovo

On Feb 26 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and delegation arrived to Kosovo and met with Lithuanian troops deployed to KFOR mission and command of the operation.
The visit will last two days during which the Minister will meet with the KFOR Commander Lt. Gen. Xavier de Marnhac, Commander of MNTF(E) Brig. Gen. John E. Davoren and Commander of POLUKRBAT Lt. Col. Zenon Brzuszko.

On February 21-22 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas took part in informal meeting of the EU Defence Ministers’ in Ljubljana. The meeting addressed preparation for the civil EU mission in Kosovo, operation in Chad, development of the EU military capabilities, NATO-EU cooperation and other international issues.

National Defence Minister on first visit to Macedonia

On February 25 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and delegation will go on the first official visit to the Republic of Macedonia. The Minister will be accompanied by the MoND Undersecretary Tomas Graziunas, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Maj. Vitalijus Vaiksnoras, Chairman of Subsection of Defence of the Committee on National Security and Defence Rimantas Smetona, and Chairman of the Commission for NATO Affairs Jonas Cekuolis.

The main emphasis of the meeting will be placed on the EU operations in the Western Balkans and Africa, NATO cooperation, and development of military capabilities.
