It is customary to recollect achievements and jobs done celebrating the day of Lithuania’s accession to NATO. Four years of membership proved Lithuania with its armed forces ahead was a reliable ally able to assume collective responsibility for defence of the allies’ sovereignty, democracy and security of citizens along with other NATO member states.

National Defence Minister and Armed Forces Commander on official visit in Georgia

National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and Armed Forces Commander Gen. Lt. Valdas Tutkus will go to Georgia on an official visit, March 27-28.
In Tbilisi they will meet Premier of Georgia Vladimir Gurgenidze, Parliamentary Speaker Nino Burdzhanadze, Defence Minister David Kezerashvili and Foreign Affairs Vice Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze.

4th anniversary of NATO accession marked by young artists’ exposition

National Defence Ministry and Office of the Seimas organise opening eve for the exposition marking 4th anniversary of Lithuania’s accession to NATO on March 28. The exposition will display the best pieces of the “NATO contemporary art workshop” project among other issues reflecting NATO security themes.

National Defence Minister and Armed Forces Commander visit Lithuanian troops in Iraq

National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas ir Armed Forces Commander Gen. Lt. Valdas Tutkus arrived to Iraq on March 26 to meet members and leadership of LITCON-10. Delegation also includes acting Field Force Commander Brig. Gen. Vytautas Jonas Zukas and members of National Defence and Security Committee of Seimas Algis Kaseta and Vytautas Cepas.

Lithuania’s present for Ghowr – first public library in the province

On Easter Day, March 23, the first public library in the region was opened in Chaghcharan, capital of Ghowr. Lithuania provided books and equipment for the library.
The ribbon at the door of the new library established in the Department of Culture and Information HQ was cut on Sunday, when Afghans celebrate the Beginning of New School Year. Provincial Government assigned four rooms in a newly built headquarters for the library – two for reading-rooms and two for book storage.
