Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Gen. Wolfgang Schneiderhan arrived in Lithuania on an official two-day visit, October 6. He came at invitation of the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus.
In the framework of visit Gen. Schneiderhan will meet with the Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. V. Tutkus, and representatives of Defence Staff.

Agreement on NATO strategic airlift came into force

Memorandum of NATO states and partners on the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) programme entered into force on September 24.
The programme is implemented by Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Norway, etc. - 12 NATO members and two Partnership for Peace programme countries.

QRA Baltic Air-policing mission transferred to US troops

On September 30 Air Force Aviation Base in Siauliai hosted ceremony of change of elements responsible for the NATO Baltic Air-policing mission. After guarding Baltic airspace for four months German Air contingent handed over the mission to the US Air Forces in Europe contingent.

First Lithuanias Defence Attaché accredited to Azerbaijan in Baku

Lt. Col. Virginijus Vilkelis, was accredited as the first Defence Attaché of Lithuania to Azerbaijan at the Ministry of Defence in Baku, September 26. Within the framework of accreditation State Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence Jurate Raguckiene and Ambassador of Lithuania Kestutis Kudzmanas met with the Azerbaijan Defence Minister General Colonel Safar Abijev.

US Air contingent take over Baltic Air-policing mission

On September 30 change of elements responsible for the NATO Baltic Air-policing mission will take place at the Air Force Aviation Base in Siauliai. German Air contingent having guarded the Baltic airspace till present will hand over the mission to the US Air contingent.

Chief of Staff of Luxembourg Army Gen. Gaston Reinig is coming to Lithuania for a two-day visit, September 29. He is visiting Lithuania at invitation of the Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus.

International exercise of staffs at the Nemencine Combat Training Centre

International staff-level exercise Camel Spider is held at the Nemencine General Adofas Ramanauskas Combat Training Centre from September 22 to 26. Staffs of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf subdivisions and representatives from Latvia and Estonia are learning to plan and implement high-intensity combat operations.

September 25, Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus left for Croatia where he will take part in an international security conference Enhancing peace and security organised by Albania, Croatia and Macedonia, three Adriatic countries aspiring NATO membership.
Following the model of successful defence cooperation of the Baltic States Croatia, Albania and Macedonia signed an agreement on defence in 2003. On the basis of the agreement the countries hold joint exercises, participate in peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo.

Five Lithuanian observers sent to Georgia

Lithuanian team of five representatives of the Foreign and National Defence Ministries and Police Department under the Ministry of the Interior - was sent to the EU Observer Mission to Georgia.
Fully manned and equipped Lithuanian team provided with an armoured vehicle by the Lithuanian Armed Forces will conduct observation, analysis and reporting on the current situation in Georgia and keeping up to the six-point agreement, including withdrawal of the Russian Armed Forces.
