Greek and Roman style wrestler Pte. Mindaugas Mizgaitis, member of NDVF 2 nd Territorial Unit of Darius and Girenas Military District, was acknowledged as Sportsman of the Year 2008 of Lithuanian Armed Forces. The winner was picked by a survey of ten most popular sportsmen carried out by the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Sports Club for the year 2008. M.Mizgaitis was given 7912 points by respondents of the survey.

Military journalist of the US in “Quill of the Year 2008” awards

“Quill of the Year 2008” awards will take place at the Ministry of National Defence on December 29, at 11.00 a.m. at the White Hall. Guest of the ceremony will be greeted by the US military journalist Michael Yon, who recently gave an original view of Lithuanian Special Operations Forces operation in Afghanistan in his website.

December 16, troops of Lithuanian Armed Forces terminated participation in the international operation Iraqi Freedom.
Chief of Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Brig. Gen. Algis Vaiceliunas took part in the ceremonious withdrawal of Lithuanian forces held at the Multi-National Forces HQ in Bagdad. In his address Brigadier General thanked partners in coalition, commanders and Lithuanian troops for cooperation and trust in completing the Iraqi Freedom operation.

New Defence Attaché of the Russian Federation accredited to Lithuania

New War, Air Force and Naval Attaché of the Russian Federation Col. Sergej Sazonov will be accredited to Lithuania on December 18 at the Ministry of National Defence. He will replace the outgoing Russian War, Air Force and Naval Attaché Capt. (N) 1st Rank Oleg Kornijenko who represented Russia’s interest in Lithuania from September 2005.
